Highgate’s Charlie Haywood was out running well again on 21 August at Watford. Having run the respectable time of 14:51 in the Hercules 5000m Festival, organised by Ben Noad at Wimbledon recently, he went on to run 3:59.98 for 1500m which placed him 4th of 13 in his race at Watford. Also in the race was James Millett, who ran 4.01.08 in 8th place, following his two good runs at Parliament Hill recently in the Southern League.

An Under 17 runner Finlay Sleeman ran a good time of 4:32.15 at the same graded meeting and one of Highgate’s ‘Star’ women runners, Yasmin Goater, did 4:35.72 for 1500m at the same meeting.

FAULKNER IN TOP FLIGHT

Nikki Faulkner ran 1:5712, coming 8th in the British Milers Club Gold Standard 800m B race on 21 August at Watford. Although his best time ever is around 1:54, 1:57 would be considered a good club time for the Highgate Harrier who has represented Highgate in major National relays, when they have been amongst the best in the country.

Regarding League completion, the Highgate Harriers and Mornington Chasers composite team ended the season in 14th out of 24 clubs in Division 3, overtaking Braintree in the final match at Parliament Hill Fields last Saturday. Ealing, Oxford and Thurrock were promoted to Division 2 of the Southern League North. It was interesting to note clubs with a large catchments area were behind the Highgate Harriers & Mornington Chasers composite team; for example, West Suffolk were 21st and West Norfolk were 22nd.
