Highgate Harriers competed in the Middlesex Road Relay Championships at Hayes, Middlesex on September 11th. It was interesting to see the Masters team victory for the 3-man team - Dave Clarkson (11:30), Mark Watson (12:01) and club President Chris Bailey, well into his 50's, with a long racing career behind him, doing 13:14.

Regarding Bailey, his son Jack Bailey did the fastest time in the winning Highgate Under 20 Men’s side in 9:19, with the second fastest, Monte Watson (9:23) being son of Mark Watson, also in the Highgate Masters team. The third fastest time was Highgate man Kamal Hamid, who ran a time of 9:25. The winning time for Highgate in the Under 20's team was 28:07 and Hillingdon were second with 30:27.  

Highgate’s A team finished third in the Under 17 Men’s race. Thomas Chadwick ran the fifth fastest leg overall in 10:03 and Liam Bailey, the third member of the Bailey family to run on the day, was the next Highgate runner finishing with the 10th fastest leg out of 23 runners in 10:18. Wiremu Nicole ran the 11th fastest leg with 10:24.

Highgate were second in the Under 13 Boys relay and had the fastest runner overall in this age group on the day, with Arjuna Pflug finishing in 10:23.

In the Under 15 Girls relay Highgate were second. Mia Cobbold was third fastest of the 26 runners in her age group in 12:08. Faduma Omar ran 12:17 and Lizzie Wortsman ran 12:31 to complete the team.
