Highgate coaches and officials spent a wet Saturday updating our First Aid skills. We learned how to assess a casualty, put a person in the recovery position, CPR, use a defibrillator, abdominal thrusts and much more. As you can see from these photos, the training was very practical and hands on, but there was a lot of laughter as well as the serious stuff.
The track staff at Parliament Hill are first aid trained and there is first aid kit in their office, as well as the announcers box, and at events we always hire a professional first aider who sits track-side. Coaches receive basic first aid training as part of their England Athletics license, but we wanted to go further. By the end, we all felt much more confident about helping someone during training or a competition.
