Highgate Harriers run very popular Young Athletes sessions which cover most aspects of athletics, because of this there can sometimes be a delay in joining the club and attending sessions.

We do our best to ensure any wait is kept to a minimum but if considering joining Highgate Harriers it is essential that you first contact our Youth Officer.

Time and location

Training for Young Athletes takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-7pm, and is for ages 9-17. For more information on types of training offered please contact our Youth Officer.

Events

The club participates in the North West London Cross Country League and in the Metropolitian Cross Country League, as well as some other individual fixtures. These races take place on Saturday mornings between October and March and are available free to all club Junior Members. Spikes are recommended, but may not be necessary, dependent on the course and the weather.

In the summer we participate in the Middlesex Young Athletes League. These track meetings take place at our Parliament Hill track and also other local tracks on Saturday afternoons.

Keep safe on the road

Our middle distance athletes in particular will find themselves training on the roads from time to time. Wearing high visibility clothing is essential.

There are plenty of tops, jackets and tights with reflective features on the market to wear on training nights. We also have a supply of hi-visibility jackets in various sizes which can be borrowed from the club room.

Coaches for young athletes may refuse to take out anyone who is not suitably kitted out.

Highgate Harriers takes the welfare of our young athletes seriously.

For more information, please read our Child Welfare document.
