Washing machines across north London must have been whirring dementedly since Saturday afternoon, which saw the Middlesex County XC Champs take place at Greenford.

The club is immensely proud of everyone who showed up to brave the ultra-muddy conditions, among whom we had 30 finishers. Numbers matter! In every event in which we had at least three competitors, we placed highly as a team: Our U17 Men won their event, U20 Men took silver, while U13 Boys, Senior Women and Senior Men placed team 4th.

On top of this, we saw some outstanding individual performances, with Lauren Russell storming home with a lead of over 2 minutes in the U20 Women, Thomas Chadwick won U17 Men, while Terry Fawden won the Senior Men. We might have had a 1-2 in that race, were it not for Rob Wilson’s shoe falling apart with a mile to go, which relegated him to third with a sore foot!

Here’s a few snaps from the day.

Lauren Russell no 56 - one of our 3 individual winners and a repeat very dominant victory like last year.
SM victor is also pictured is Terry Fawden. Terry has won several Middlesex County titles over the years  but this was his first attempt in the senior age group and another win!
And the action picture of U20 and U17 men racing in the same race - Thomas Chadwick (145) won the the U17 but clearly mixing it with the U20s which includes University students Monte Watson (number obscured but leading that group in the photo) and Lucas Porter (22) in the shot.
In the senior women 215 and 216 are Natasha Cendrowicz and Louise Faherty - who between them have amassed over 40 Middlesex Championships between them!

PS  Athletes in the younger age groups all got stuck in (quite literally - very muddy conditions) and gained good experience of challenging conditions.
