When James Lindsay joined Highgate Harriers in April this year, nobody – least of all James himself – expected that within a few months he would be ranked number one in the UK for the men’s 75+ 100m. Yet that’s exactly where he stands today, with a personal best of 14.26 seconds and plenty of excitement about what’s to come.
James has always had speed. In his younger days he was known for it on the rugby pitch, but only recently did he realise he could still be quick for his age. After holding his own against others in the gym, he thought, “why not see how fast I can really be?” That decision has opened a new chapter in his sporting life.
Since April he has already raced six times, showing steady progress and plenty of competitive fire. He didn’t come into this expecting to be ranked number one, but his focus and determination to keep improving have quickly made him a valued part of our training group.
As his coach, training James is a real pleasure. He brings energy to every session and shows that it’s never too late to set new goals.
Next up, James will race at the British Masters Championships in Derby on 12 September. Whatever the result, he is already a role model for the club and for anyone looking to rediscover the joy of sport later in life.
