The masters athletics team at Highgate Harriers continues to go from strength to strength, with several athletes posting incredible results and showing remarkable determination this season.
Leading the charge is James Lindsay, who has been crowned the new British Champion in the 75+ age category following his race in Derby last Friday. In a remarkable achievement, James has also noticed his performances have placed him in the top 5 in the world rankings for his age group. The whole club looks forward to supporting him in the upcoming European competition next month.
In a story of pure resilience, Pedro Vidal-Patel has overcome huge obstacles to set a new personal best. At the Stratford Speed GP, he recorded a fantastic 100m time of 19.23, a huge improvement on the 32 seconds he ran last October. This came only six weeks after breaking his collar bone at a SAL meet in Hillingdon, an injury he sustained mid-race but still managed to finish. His dedication saw him training with one arm just two weeks after surgery, all while continuing his battle with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
I’m really happy to finish the season with a new personal best, something I never thought possible a year ago. Just 6 weeks ago I broke my collarbone and thought my season was over, but I made it to the start line and smashed my PB. It’s been an unforgettable season, and I can’t wait to race again next year.
Finally, congratulations go to Neil Middleton, coached by Alima, who is currently the UK's number 1 ranked V60 100m sprinter. Racing at Stratford on Sunday, Neil clocked a whopping 12.77, cementing his top spot in the country. These results demonstrate the incredible talent and spirit within the masters team at Highgate Harriers running club.
