We're introducing one of our fantastic coaches at Highgate Harriers. Meet Julie Cobbold, who coaches our U13/U15 girls' groups alongside Sarah.

Which group do you coach at Highgate Harriers?

u13/u15 girls alongside Sarah.

How did you get into coaching?

My daughter joined the club as a u11 in 2019... Initially starting as a parent helper in u11s, I decided to take the plunge and enrol on the UKA coaching pathway. I got my assistant coach licence in 2023 and my athletics coach licence in 2024.

What motivates you to coach?

To give back to a sport I love... I enjoy coaching the juniors at Highgate and it has been incredibly rewarding to see them progress and grow in confidence and ability.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming a coach?

If you're a parent helper and keen to get into coaching, please give it a go... I am more than happy to speak to anyone who's considering it. I am at the Parliament Hill track every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

What do you like doing best when you're not at the track?

Unfortunately I have had to pause my running due to a hip injury but as a mum to two teenagers, I find that most of my free time is spent providing taxi services and restocking the fridge! Apart from that I like doing the usual stuff like eating nice food, sleeping and socialising.

Tell us a secret...

I don't have many secrets... but here's one... during my rebellious teenage years, I had a Mohican haircut that I dyed purple. Thankfully way before smartphones existed and all photographic evidence has long been destroyed.
