Highgate Harriers men came away from Horsenden Hill, with another victory on Saturday, in the Metropolitan League, in the 2nd of 5 fixtures and, with hopes still high of finishing the season top of the 23 clubs, for the 14th year! The top five clubs in the Men's league on Saturday were 1 Highgate Harriers 1903, 2 Victoria Park &Tower Hamlets 1854. Woodford Green & Essex Ladies 1575; London Heathside 1496; and Highgate 'B' 1331. The winner was popular Shaftesbury Barnet runner, Thomas Butler, in 23:08.17 but in 3rd place, the leading Highgate runner was Roger Poolman in 23:40.24.
The impressive thing was Highgate Harriers 12 to score were inside the first 62 places out of 401 finishers, over the course near Perivale. Pete Chambers, was 6th in 24:06.99 and Captain of the team Robert Wilson, was 8th in 24:19.95. The rest of the 12 were 11 George Trotter, 12 Greg Grierson,13 Alex Jackson, 28 Charley Heywood, 30 Leon Wheeler, 31 Sean Renfer, 34 Henry Coop 36 Alex Richardson and 62 Barney Johnson. Leading the 'B; team was Josh Maikem followed by popular Highgate stalwart Robel Bahelbi 68th out of the 401 finishers too!.
Victoria Park lead the women's league but on the day Highgate Harriers were 3rd but, the winner was Rebecca Piggott of London Heathside in 28:8.11 with a new name for Highgate, Kaitlyn Johnson, coming 4th in 28:35,42. of 187 runners that completed. Emily Chong was 23rd, Rose Kirwan 55th, Louise Faherty (W60) 62nd. 68th was Kate Brennan, and Natasha Cendrowicz (W55) 80th and Lucy Hughes (W40) 106th.
99 ran in the Junior race with Highgate's Luke Tomlinson 5th and Aron Sinko-Uribe 13th.
