Here we have a photo of the presentation made to Jen Lovell at the Middlesex County Cross-Country Championships on Saturday for her outstanding officials work for the County. The award is the Roy Stratton trophy, named in memory of Roy who, over decades, was a major force and influence in both County and National officiating.

This year, as there were such strong nominations, a second award was made in honour of Beryl Stratton, Roy’s wife, who we sadly lost this year. Like Roy, Beryl was dedicated to athletics from an officials perspective and for many years managed the Women's Southern League before it became the SAL.

Jen was unable to make the Middlesex Officials' Function in October where this award is usually presented, so Stuart Pugh, Middlesex Officials Secretary, took the belated opportunity on Saturday to present this to Jen at the first opportunity, which was the County Championships.

It is also very sad to read of the passing of John Powell who, like so many Highgate members, made me feel very welcome when I joined the club. It was also fitting that the presentation for his commitment to Middlesex County athletics, which was mentioned in the last newsletter, was made by myself during the year I was President of Middlesex. One Highgate member to another!
