SONNY ALLEN AMONGST THE BEST

In the conditions that had the Metropolitan League final event cancelled due to a waterlogged course, at Trent Park; the UK Cross-Challenge and Inter-Area events went ahead on Saturday, the 7th of February, over Hampstead Heath. One Highgate runner did well in the  high calibre event starting from Parliament Hill and, over a winding course in the UK athletics Cross-Challenge and inter- area races went ahead, over a gruelling course, twisting and turning in the mud. "It was sticky and muddy'' said Highgate' s Sonny Allen after her race where she finished 4th in 24:21. The race winner was Freya Felton of Westport Athletic club in Ireland in 23:22.

Hugo Milner (Derby). who won the corresponding senior race in 2024, led All the way where as the Woman's winner Eleanor Curran of Leeds City. was an unexpected Women's winner in 29.50. Other high placers for Highgate Harriers on the day were Hannah Viner 13th in the womens senior race in 31.38. In the Under 17's ' Harris Austin 11th.and Leon Delvemdahl 20th in the Under 20 Womens race. Highgate Harriers very strong 12 man team were expected to win the Metropolitan League outright for the 14th year but were unable to run at Trent Park because it was flooded.
