The Met League campaign of 2025/26 was another successful one for the Men’s squad, with many newcomers making their debuts alongside battle-hardened Met League veterans. The shortened campaign, with the last fixture cancelled as a result of flooding, saw the A team win their 13th title in a row and win 3 of the 4 fixtures. The overall margin of 77 points (7582 vs 7505) demonstrates just how hard fought the battle with Victoria Park was.

The B team finished 6th in Division 1, ahead of many A teams and comfortably ahead of Victoria Park’s B team in 7th, to win the unofficial 1st ‘B’ team trophy. This exemplifies the club’s strength in depth and it is what impresses me most when watching from the sideline. There is a constant flow of Highgate vests throughout the field and this must impress and intimidate the opposition in equal measure.

The C team finished 4th in Division 2 and narrowly missed out on promotion to Division 1. They finished as the second placed ‘C’ team but beat 3 clubs A teams. This is particularly impressive when you consider the C team will be made up of our 25th to 34th scorers compared to other clubs top 10 runners.

The 2nd fixture saw 56 Highgate men finish, the highest number in a single fixture in recent memory. There were 90 different runners throughout the season, again showing the great depth at this club and the strong appetite to compete with the best North London and the surrounding areas have to offer. Despite no individual wins, the best individual performances saw Flurry Grierson finish 2nd twice, and Rob Wilson finish 2nd overall and George Trotter 4th overall.

It was an honour to captain the team this season and I look forward to seeing how we capitalise on these excellent performances as the Road and Track seasons approach. UT
