Luke was racing for the final time at the ISA champs in the Year 10/11 age group. Despite coming 4th three times, training had been going very well so he really had high hopes of getting a medal of some sort this time.
The race was run over three laps of approximately 1400m. On the first lap he settled into the lead group; on the second lap, however, he let one lad build a slight lead but then managed to reel him in on the third and accelerated away up the final hill to take the title!
In Luke's first ISA XC event, Luke finished mid-pack at the regional stage, so it is a great testament to the effort he has put in over the following seven years to, not only reach the final, but finally take the title.
Luke is a great example to all young athletes, showing how hard work and never giving up can really pay off in the end. So proud of him!
