Highgate Harriers and Mornington Chasers combined team, won 3 or their 4 matches. to keep them at the top of the table, in the Southern League Division 3 North London. It was after their final match of the season at Uxbridge, on the 8th of August.
In the final league table results Highgate Harriers/Mornington were top overall for the meetings with 1616 match points (27 league points); with Serpentine RC on 1142, 2nd and Hillingdon AC 3rd with 1012 (20 league Points). Hillingdon AC did manage to win the final match at Uxbridge, on home ground with 344 to Highgate & Mornington on 306 but Highgate/Mornington were well ahead in the overall league points and deserved their promotion to Division 2. It was good to see Highgate Harriers supplying some good track and field athletes as they are more known as a 'top flight' road and cross-country club these days.
Highgate Harrier Xavier Achiampong was outstanding, winning his long jump with 5'97m & the triple jump with 13'48m. Mornington's Katrina Kelly has always been a prolific competitor for the joint club event and won the shot 'A' with 8'83m. Gabrielle Johnson, an Under 20 athlete is another prolific performer, when winning the 'A 'long jump with 5'18 and 2nd in the javelin with 21' 27 as a 'B' string event.
Another one who was a great boon to the team was Highgate's Remi Weinbrecht, who won the shot put with 12'58 & discus with 35'21 and his 2nd place in the javelin with 45'9 and ran 11'6 in the 100'B'. Jonathan Boardman ran 4:18.5 to win the 1500. John Malklem's 52.4 in 2nd place in the 400 was impressive. Janine Markrondis was the sole hammer thrower doing 11'20 but useful points was the all important thing for the club in the league.
